Outfit test: -15°C with a windchill of -23

Quick post-superbowl post. Tara and I went on a walk today in the great Canadian winter. It was -15°C out and the wind was howling and snow was blowing, bringing the temp down to -23. I was in my new jacket and snowpants with longjohns and a Kombi base layer on top. I also had on a balaclava, a toque, and ski gloves. We were out for 30 minutes and before that I spent 30 minutes shoveling snow.

Verdict? Success! I was toasty warm after shoveling and I didn't get a chill after slowing down to a walk. I wasn't too bulky or uncomfortable. I am confident that the rockies won't be too cold for me.

I love the winter.

Wow, you really are sick.

We took the dog out yesterday evening, during the superbowl (because I find myself not caring about the game, the ads or the show). The very cold streets were deserted...we felt like the only people on the planet not watching the game!

Not a success until you build a fort out of snow and leaves 200 miles from civilization (like in Calendar for example) and sleep in it with no food or water for a week straight :)

Tim - yes, I agree. I should have called this post Outfit Test 1. Unfortunately I don't think I have time in the next month to make a trip to nowhere to build a snow hut. But I do have a nice backyard that I can use. Maybe I should tell Tara to lock me out of the house for a night to see how I do...

Snides - I don't think I'm sick - I just have a healthy appetite for the cold weather. It makes me feel alive. And I don't feel guilty for drinking a cuppa hot chocolate when I come back indoors.

the superbowl... man, i was cheering for chicago because the colts beat my pats... i became embittered quite early on. sad, sad story. alas, life goes on after football.

The superbowl was good - the rain made it exciting if nothing else... I didn't have a side to cheer for, I was just looking for a close game.

The first half was good, the second not so much. Ah well - there is always next year...
